WiMax in Russia: in three months
WiMax technology, the development of which we closely follow, perhaps from the very first mentions of it, may soon come to our native spaces. Aperto Networks announces the delivery of the first systems of the PacketMAX family to the Russian wireless broadband operator Infoseti through its distributor Avalcom.
I must say that Aperto has so far remained “in the shadows” and has been undeservedly deprived of the attention of the press. However, the company managed to pass the WiMax Forum certification (apparently, together with the top three, consisting of Alvarion, Airspan Networks and Redline Communications, in contrast to which it uses Fujitsu Microelectronics’ element base in infrastructure equipment), which was announced last week. Aperto client terminals use Intel solutions.
The first Aperto deliveries to the Russian market included PacketMAX 5000 base stations and PacketMAX 100 client terminals. It is reported that the equipment uses a frequency range of 3.5 GHz, it is not yet known whether it is licensed or not required to be licensed in Russia.
Still, inspired by its success in the WiMax Forum, Aperto is going to storm the Russian market. In the next three months, it is planned to deploy WiMax networks in test mode in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, including Moscow, Novosibirsk, a number of cities in the central part of Russia, the Ural and Siberian regions. It’s too early to guess how the future fate of the promising wireless broadband access technology will develop, but in any case, it’s nice that technological progress reached our country not later, but still simultaneously with other countries.
