Intel lowers the TDP of some of its processors
The source reports that starting August 24, Pentium 4 processors 631 (3 GHz), 641 (3.2 GHz), 651 (3.4 GHz) and 661 (3.6 GHz) have been transferred to the new D0 stepping, announced more than two months ago. Recall that the previous C1 stepping has been used since April this year.
The main difference between the updated processors will be their reduced TDP – it will drop to 65 W compared to 86 W for the same models on the previous stepping.
The processor identifier (CPUID) will also change from F64 to F65. BIOS update may be required for motherboard and Pentium 4 D0 compatibility.
Below you can see the external signs by which you can distinguish new processors:
The same source says that the updated Pentium 4 will not be released for a long time – the delivery of models 631/641 will be discontinued on January 22, 2021, and 651/661 – on November 22 of this year, which, in principle, fits well with earlier information about the plans.
