Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX2: the wider the better
A year ago, the announcement of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 caused a lot of controversy and discussion. At that time, the camera had a unique combination of technical characteristics, functionality and miniature size. Later, after the first tests, it became known about the relatively noisy images obtained even when shooting with the lowest sensitivity values. Nevertheless, the camera is still very interesting and popular today.
The successor model, named Lumix DMC-LX2, retains all the successful solutions of its predecessor. Weaknesses have been improved. The novelty received a new 10.2-megapixel CCD sensor with a size of 1 / 1.65 inches. According to the manufacturer, thanks to a new matrix and a more powerful Venus Engine III image processor, it was possible to significantly reduce the noise level in the images. As with the new Lumix DMC-FZ50 ultrazoom, sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 to ISO 1600 are available, as well as ISO 3200 for reduced resolution. There is also the latest feature of Panasonic cameras – IIC (Intelligent ISO Control), which tracks the speed of movement of objects in the frame and automatically sets the ISO value.
The principle “the wider the better” can be traced throughout. The aspect ratio of 16: 9 has not only the LCD display, but also the photosensitive element itself. That is, the maximum image resolution is achieved precisely when shooting in 16: 9 mode. In the more familiar 4: 3 and 3: 2 modes, the frame sizes are smaller.
Wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens covering an equivalent focal length range of 28 – 112 mm, unaltered. There is also a proprietary optical image stabilization system MEGA O.I.S.
Various manual settings are available to users to solve almost any creative task. For example, by choosing manual focus mode, the photographer will see on the display not only the distance to the subject, but also the depth of field. In addition, for convenience, the focus area can be enlarged 4 times on the screen. RAW format supported.
The already decent video capabilities were supplemented by the mode of shooting videos with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels at a speed of 15 frames per second.
The new product can be expected on sale no earlier than September. The recommended cost is about $ 500.
