Japanese questioned Azimov’s first law of robotics
Research is underway in England to study the interaction between humans and robots. The goal of the project is to understand what the robots of the future should look like and how they should behave.
Interestingly, the robot participating in the study has no name. Scientists did this on purpose, because they believe that as soon as an object has a name, people immediately have associations related to its gender, which can cause problems (do scientists really foresee lawsuits against robot manufacturers for sexual harassment from their offspring??).
The results of the work show that people feel insecure when the robot gets too close or moves directly towards the person. The subjects also admitted that they really do not like it when the robot moves behind them. (And for this it was necessary to conduct research? Would watch people and cars on the street.)
It is noteworthy that an expert from Japan – Shuji Hashimoto will take part in the conference on the interaction of robots and people, which will be held at the University of Hertfordshire. He is known, among other things, for the fact that he proposes to ignore Asimov’s “first law of robotics”, which states that a robot cannot be programmed to harm a person by action or inaction.
According to Hashimoto, the robot should be given the ability to make decisions and even harm a person if necessary. He believes that Asimov’s philosophy is too “human-centered”.
