13 embedded Luminary microcontrollers on ARM core

As we have already reported, the leading brands are gradually disappearing from the market of embedded solutions, which, according to analysts, seems to be growing: first Intel announced the sale of its XScale development division to Marvell, and then AMD announced its abandonment of Alchemy. Of course, both of them leave a small “loophole” for themselves in the form of x86-compatible microprocessors, which they (nobless obliget) are already actively engaged in and which “in combination” can be used in embedded solutions.

However, the relevance of small embedded solutions that do not have large computing capabilities, for example, for consumer electronics devices, remains high. Therefore, it is not surprising that the number of announcements of embedded solutions, especially on the ARM microarchitecture, is increasing. One of these announcements was Luminary Micro’s announcement of the development of thirteen 32-bit Stellaris microcontrollers based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core.

All new items (LM3S3xx, LM3S6xx and LM3S8xx) operate at up to 50 MHz, contain up to 64 KB of single-cycle flash memory, 8 KB of single-cycle static random access memory (SRAM), up to 8 10-bit ADCs digitizing up to 1 million. signals per second. Two of the presented microcontrollers also contain a built-in QEI (Quadrature Encoder Input) module for processing motion sensor signals.

Microcontroller prices range from $ 1.00 to $ 5.47 in bulk.
