Tessera Technologies, a specialist in electronics miniaturization technologies, has unveiled the details of a new development, dubbed Shellcase CF. We are talking about the technology of the “level of semiconductor wafers”, that is, used at the stage of production of semiconductor devices, in particular, optical components integrated into electronic devices, such as image sensors for cell phones, digital photos and video cameras.
Shellcase CF is applicable not only in the production of image sensors, but also in other optical devices, as well as some MEMS devices. The essence of Shellcase CF is to protect the components from contamination that may occur during the initial processing of the wafer. New technology fully compatible with conventional Chip-on-Board (COB) process. The immediate area of application of the technology is the production of CMOS and CCD image sensors for cell phones equipped with cameras. According to the company’s specialists, Shellcase CF can significantly increase the yield of products. Compared to the existing COB process, the increase can be up to 40%. Magnification is provided by protecting the active area of the sensor and the ability to test the sensor before assembly.
